Meandering Thoughts
This August Monday morning gave us a cool, cloudy start to our week. After two months of baking, scalding, scorching, and sizzling we can finally be outside without being acutely aware of how vulnerable human are to the elements.
The older I get the less internet chatter and noise I can stand. I’m just now old enough that a lot of arguments, debates, and rants the 20 somethings are having I already went through online when I was that age. Have fun.
Using prompts to generate AI Art, stories, and animation is no different experience on the user side than typing search terms into a search engine. An artist who uses it to “do more” more quickly is actually doing less. You’re a glorified search engine user.
Content is being influenced by algrotrithms. This isn’t news. But what does seem to be new is how fast the carrot of followers and interactions that the aglorthim dangles in front of us an be snatched away. And as an artist, the thing that catches on probably won’t be what you intend or really want to do.
I think it’s important to find a hobby you can’t monetize. Doing something for the sheer intrinsic joy of doing it. That thing that people who aren’t interested in it, probably wouldn’t get. Ham radio and fishing are mine. I also try every year, and fail every year, to have an incredible vegetable garden.
